I am doing so badly with my reading. So badly. Someone track me down and kick me in the butt, this is getting ridiculous.
Despite there being a readathon that I had attempted (and failed, thank you work) to take part in, I didn’t read a whole lot this month. But you know what? I’m going to keep trying. There are six months left in the year and I’m going to kick my own butt to read. But that’s for another post. Possibly. For now…
Here are the books I read in June:
The first book I read this month was Babe in Boyland by Jodi Gehrman. This particular story might remind you a lot of Amanda Byne’s movie She’s the Man, but it’s not quite as similar as you maybe are inclined to first assume. The main character, Natalie, wants to get inside the mind of a boy. So, how does she do it? She goes undercover and inserts herself into a male boarding school, and then deals with the consequences she’s put upon herself. All in all, they’re pretty hilarious. You can read my review on the book here, but remember to beware of spoilers. DIY inspired by this book can be found here!
The next book couldn’t be counted towards my yearly goal because it’s a reread, and that is Insurgent by Veronica Roth. There’s not much to be said about this one since it’s the second one in the series and I was only reading it again for the movie, but as soon as I can get my hands on the movie, there will be a Book to Movie Thoughts post. Stay tuned if that interests you!
Finally read this month was Worldshaker by Richard Harland. I enjoyed this book at some moments and less at others, but I think I may just not like the idea of the whole story taking place in such a small area. When it comes to steampunk-style novels, I need more meat to them. I want to know the world and the backstory, and this is only lightly hinted at in this book. I hope they’ll give more in the second book, but as for now, not my favorite series. Interesting, but not interesting enough.
And that’s everything I read for June. I HAVE TO DO BETTER!
Thanks for reading!
xoxo Nova
