Those are definitely not in the right order, but oh well.
I don’t even know where to start, today was such a great day and I’m horrified it’ll be spoiled if I start reveling in it. Well, I guess technically it started last night, but it was almost midnight so I’d prefer to count it as today for the most part. I suppose I’ll just start in order of the title, even though it’s not the order that everything happened in.
Invisalign! So, remember how a while ago I mentioned that I was getting ready to get (my second set of, ugh) braces? Well, some issues went down with my insurance and I was being coerced into being duped, so I pulled out of the program I had been about to start in favor of finding someone who could give me a bit better of an opinion without going back on their own word once realizing they owed me money for something.
(Long story, I won’t go into the real details, but it was a mess.)
Some odd months later, I finally found someone, and I went in today hoping they’d have a plan I could actually afford, because braces are just as expensive the second time around as they are the first. Turns out, they did, and it also turns out that this specific orthodontist is #1 in the nation with Invisalign results. Naturally, since they were having an offer on them and the price was the same, I went for the kind of braces I can pop out should I need to have a quick cosplay shoot.
Needless to say, I was beyond thrilled with that outcome after the two or three odd years I’ve spent trying to figure out how to get my hands on some dental fixings that worked for me. Fingers crossed everything continues to go well, but I get my first set in 4-6 weeks.
Now, Secret Santas. I used to participate in quite a few of these back when I was prominent on some circles of fandom, but fell away from them when I fell away from the fandoms. (Not that I’m not still in the fandoms, but when I say I was prominent in the fandoms, I mean I lived and breathed them, and also modded a few different things for them–it took a lot out of me, so I backed away a bit and just kind of faded.) Enter The Broke and the Bookish, a book-related website hosting their annual book-related (yesssss) Secret Santa. Brand new to me, but I’m so glad I found it.
I sent out my email to enter and now I’m eagerly awaiting the time to start. It looks like it’ll be a lot of fun.
And, the final thing, which had actually happened first in the list: I finally caved and started watching Yuri on Ice after someone telling me it was more amazing than Free! (which, I’m not a fan of swimming, I was there for the fanservice, but hey). I had initially held off because I’m a teensy bit of a closet ice skating snob and was worried the animation wouldn’t give the sport justice, but holy wow was I wrong.
I was never a competitive skater myself (never a competitive anything, I didn’t like the pressure despite the various sports I did learn to play), and I’m rusty on the names and definitely on skating itself (I haven’t touched ice in eight years), but you can tell they knew what they were doing when they made the animation for this show. It’s beautiful. The moves are smooth, the jumps look real, I’m even feeling the same anticipation and fear that someone’s going to mess up watching these anime characters skate that I do watching the Winter Olympics each year it comes around.

I’m dying for more, I’m so in love. There are only 4 episodes at this point. I have a need.

I hope the series doesn’t lose quality as it continues. I’m pretty hitched on the storyline, I won’t lie, but if that diminishes I’ll be okay as long as the animation quality doesn’t.
I couldn’t find a GIF of the combination spin to save my life, but that was by far my favorite move to watch animated. A+ would recommend to everyone who likes anime, based on those first four episodes.
Also, Yuri is a treasure. So is Yuri. And Victor. But mostly Yuri.
More please.
