It actually took me the entirety of the month of December and then some of November to compose this post and be happy with it, but here it is. Goals for 2017 that I think I might actually be able to accomplish. Some of them are more elaborate than others, and some require little effort on my part at all, but they’re all things I think I can actually get done in the new year.
Future me, you’d better get these down. I s2g.
Now, the goals:
|| Books ||
♥ Read at least 75 books in the new year. I upped my goal this year from its intended … 100? 50? I can’t remember, but I upped it to 120 at a point, and I’m not going to do that again. If I pass my goal, I pass my goal, but I want to struggle less on trying to read a lot and instead just enjoy what I’m reading.
♥ At least 30 of those books must be books I own at the beginning of this year. This means, at the start of 2017, I’ve updated my TBR Shelf, and then I’m not going to touch it until something is read off of that shelf. If I get a new book (and I will, for sure), then too bad, it’s not going to count. I must read 30 books I already own and have not read.
So, the second part of this goal section will be …
♦ Books I want to read in 2017 ♦
» The Inkworld Trilogy by Cornelia Funke — Which has a sequel coming out, now? I’d better get on that.
» The Rest of the Mortal Instruments/Infernal Devices/Dark Artifices books I own (up to Lady Midnight) by Cassandra Clare
» The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater
» Something by Michael Grant. He’s one of my favorite authors and I own two books from his other series (Gone is the only one I’ve read so far, and it’s one of my favorite series ever), so one of those is going to have to be read.
|| Cosplay ||
♠ Finally finish my Sailor Saturn cosplay. I’ve been working on this thing since 2011 (and most of the time on it has been without progress … oops) and, with Eva and Mel (my cosplay boos — in addition to Nickii!) having their Senshi cosplays done, I’m now motivated to dust it off and finally finish it. I’ve always, always wanted to be a Sailor Senshi (so original, I know), but now I think I’ve accumulated the skills I need to not get so frustrated with it — the issue I was having thus far.
♠ Make a non-character cosplay. Meaning, no characters, to be simply put. I’ve been meaning to do some sort of period costume, or perhaps a mythical-type costume. I make a lot of character cosplays, and I want to expand into other things.
♠ Buy a proper dress form. I know … I still don’t own my own dress form. I’ve been sewing for six years now, cosplaying for longer, and I don’t have one. Has this caused numerous headaches and unending frustration? God, yes it has. I told myself, after making Luka, that I had to get one before embarking on another big project, and I’m demanding myself I do it this time.
♠ Figure out some better storage and get rid of ancient cosplays. Some of them I know I’ll never wear again, and, while I know they’re kind of my babies, they’re pretty badly-made and, really, if I want to wear them again, I’ll remake them.
|| Life ||
♣ Grow my hair out. I keep cutting it off and then wishing I hadn’t, because I haven’t had long hair in years, and I just want to grow it out and see if I like it better long. If I don’t, away it goes! I know I like having short hair (that’s why I keep cutting it), but I can’t remember if I liked having it long. I want to get there! It’s about a shot bob at this point in time, so I’m on my way.
♣ Take part in NaNoWriMo 2017. I failed this year, but I loved doing it. I want to do it again this year. I don’t know what I’m going to be writing, but I want to do it.
♣ Write more in general. Fan fiction, my own original content. I do write a fair amount of fan fiction already, but I want to write more. I probably don’t even really need this written as a goal, since I’ll do it anyway, but it’ll make me feel more accomplished at the end of the year when I can check this off as being done.
♣ Do more charity work. I know how to sew, knit, and crochet. A lot of charities ask for things like simple pillowcase dresses for girls in Africa (you can find their site here), which I can make, and others ask for blanket squares (here and here are two of them, I’m looking around for more), which I can make without even looking at my hands — perfect for when I’m binge-watching YouTube or Netflix or Anime. I want to at least attempt at doing some more things like this.
♣ Walk more. Easy enough, right? Plus, with Pokémon Go rolling out the new Pokémon, I’ll have more reason to hatch more eggs.
♣ Mess around with makeup more. I’ve just passed my quarter-century of life just recently, and I still only wear makeup when I cosplay. This past month I’ve done a little bit more with experimenting and learning from my (seemingly endless) mistakes and YouTube, but I want to do more. I don’t plan on ever being great at it, but it’s kind of fun (literally never thought that in my life before, I hated wearing makeup) and I want to play around with it more.
… And those are my goals! They look like a lot more all written out, but I don’t think they’ll be that much to accomplish.
What are your goals for the new year? Let me know!
Thanks for reading!
