Monthly recommendations is a Goodreads group hosted by Kayla Rayne and Trina @Between Chapters. June’s topic is retellings!
Aw yissss I love a good retelling. This is so up my alley.
(I know June is almost over but shhh shhsh I’ve had a hell of a slumpy month.)
HERE WE GO!
Jackaby by William Ritter is a Sherlock-esque of a retelling, and I adore it. I’m so excited for the final book. (Though I continue to hope it’s not really an end!)
If you don’t know already, The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer is a sci-fi retelling of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Snow White, and a slew of other references thrown in. I love it!
Honestly, anything you pick up by Alex Flinn is probably going to be a retelling. I haven’t read all of them, but A Kiss in Time is one of my favorites. I also like Beastly!
The Hollow Trilogy by Jessica Verday is a retelling … of sorts, of Sleepy Hollow. Maybe more like a sequel? It’s hard to explain, but it’s a good series for Halloween!
And, finally, Entwined by Heather Dixon is a retelling of Twelve Dancing Princesses, and it’s been a hot minute since I’ve read this one, so I plan on revisiting it at some point!
I’ve had Jackaby for so long and have yet to read it.
And I’d really like to try Entwined.
