Top Five Wednesday is a weekly meme created by GingerReadsLainey and hosted Sam from Thoughts On Tomes over on Goodreads. This week’s topic is top 5 series that had best second books. (That sounds awkward, but you know what, I’m rolling with it.)
This was HARD. Second-book-slump is way too real.
So hard that I actually only have three for this one, but I’m doing it anyway. Why? Well, mostly because I really like this topic, but also because I skipped the first one of the month.
ONE
Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. The first book was great, but the second book shook me. I wish I could read these again for the first time. (Even Mockingjay … even through the disappointment.)
TWO
Kind of an odd one since I rarely talk about this series and also pretty much never read adult romance, but I enjoyed this series quite a lot. The second book, The Mistress by Susan Wiggs, was my favorite of the trilogy.
THREE
… I know, I’m just a broken record. What can I say, I loved The Dream Thieves the best.
Only three! It looks so wrong without the proper four, but I couldn’t think of any others where I liked the second book the best. I need to reread some of these series, because I don’t remember which book I liked best!
Anyway, thanks for reading!
I could only think of three this week! It was so hard. I was tempted to include Catching Fire in my list too, but I really liked the first book as much as the second.

That was my issue for a lot of series! I liked the second book as much as the first, so I couldn’t count them… (And, if I’m being honest, I only liked Catching Fire a TEENY bit more than the first, but I included it anyway 😀 )

I so loved Catching Fire better than the other books in the Hunger Games series. I read that thing so fast compared to the others.

I know, right? It was gripping! I remember looking at the clock while reading it, realizing I had to be up in 5 hours for school, and pulling my first book-related all-nighter to finish it. Couldn’t put it down.

So true, it was intense. Love finding page-turners!

I definitely agree with Catching Fire being the best book in that trilogy! It had most of the elements from the first book that I loved and it added more amazing characters. Great list! 🙂
