Top Five Wednesday is a weekly meme created by GingerReadsLainey and hosted Sam from Thoughts On Tomes over on Goodreads. This week’s topic is top 5 creepy settings. I don’t read enough horror (working on it), so this was kind of hard!
5 – Rainstorms/Bad Weather
Inspired by my current read, It by Stephen king, rain surprisingly makes things a decent amount creepier! Thunderstorms? Well, there’s a reason they use thunder in scary movies.
4 – Graveyards
I know, I know. Graveyards aren’t really that scary and whatnot, especially not in the morning, but they freak me out! Not during the day, but. Eugh. I’m not great with scary, okay.
3 – Deep, Dark Woods
Tons of books could be used as examples for this one, because what woods setting in a book isn’t used for at least a little spook factor? Looking at you, Harry Potter.
2 – Asylums
*Nope nope nope bad GIF search nope nope nope nope nope*
Fully blame Outlast for this one, I really want to read some books with asylum settings. I know there are a good amount out there!
1 – Abandoned Houses/Hospitals/etc.
This one just speaks for itself, I think.
Well it’s 2 in the morning as I write this, and I’ve spooked myself just from thinking about these settings (and GIF searching). Great!
Abandoned house and asylum definitely increase the spook factor. Abandoned asylum makes it even worse 😰

Love your list! Only Stephen King can scare you with the normalcy or the mundane of life! K-Dramas use abandoned asylums and deep, dark woods to great affect. Their visuals light up my imagination when I read, raising the creep factor.
I love top 5 Wednesday… Here is my post if you’re interested in my choices ❤ http://wp.me/p3LRfZ-6ho
