AKA the “Nova makes up her own ways to push herself to read more of her owned books” challenge.
So, yeah. I have so many books on my TBR that I need to get through in order to clean out my shelves (because I unhaul most books I read nowadays, unless I love them), but I also have to figure out ways to trick myself into getting through the books, and presenting a challenge almost always works at least a little bit.
(I know I could just get rid of books without reading them but, again, reading them is the challenge. Also I don’t want to get rid of a book only to decide I wanted to read it. It’s a thing with me.)
And, because I have so many dang books, I found a pretty easy challenge to throw at myself was a challenge that uses a skillset I leaned in Kindergarten: the alphabet.
Thus: here is my personal alphabet challenge.

Now, somehow, I didn’t actually have books that started with an X or a Y (I was actually shocked, because I thought I had more than enough books to find at least one), so I substituted a numbered book for X (1984 by George Orwell) and then a random book for Y (Wandering Star by Romina Russell), and decided it was good enough since I still owned the books and would be reading them.
To win this challenge I’ve set for myself, I have to finish these books by the end of the year. That gives me roughly six months to do so, which should be more than enough to get through the 27+ (depending on if I go for the whole series with some of these books) books I now have sitting on a single shelf.
Wish me luck.
And thanks for reading!
