This Weekend’s Read [6/13/2020]

Oh, man, last weekend’s read was a knockout. Last week I read The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton, and it was so good. It was so good that I not only flew through it, easily, despite my massive reading slump (seriously, I’m currently 12 books behind on my goal, it’s that bad), but also devoured the second book in the series in a blink. Clayton’s writing style is just so easy to read through, and, when I also got hooked on Minecraft Dungeons and decided to partially audiobook, the audiobook turned out to be spectacular.

There’s a supposed third book listed on Goodreads, and I really, really hope it’s true. I want more of the world of The Belles. I’m tucking those two books away for reviews, whenever I get the mental motivation to churn out a book review again.

Now, this weekend’s read!

This weekend I’ll be reading Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake. Though not a black author, she is BIPOC, so I think it counts as going towards my goal.

I’ve read one other series by Blake before, The Goddess War, and, while it wasn’t my favorite series, I did really like Blake’s writing style and story. I just wasn’t a huge fan of the execution, and that was in no way a representation of Blake’s storytelling ability, because she’s really, really good at it. I’m just picky about my mythology retellings. That’s literally it.

So, honestly, I’m expecting to love this one, since I already like Blake’s way of writing, and, as far as I’m aware, this one has nothing to do with mythology.

Thanks for reading!
