Sorry about skipping last weekend’s! I knew I’d get tied up with holiday shenanigans (Quarantine Edition), so I didn’t bother trying to read anything specific for that weekend. Which was a good thing, because I’m pretty sure I barely read anything at all! This weekend should be better.
So, like always, last weekend’s read is first up.
Last weekend I read The Last Wife of Henry VIII by Carolly Erickson.
… Or, I was supposed to. I ended up reading a different one in the series, and then read this one during the week. It still got read!
Aaaaand it wasn’t exactly my favorite. Despite my love for historical fiction, I haven’t actually read all that many books about Henry VIII’s reign or about his infamous train of wives, so the fiction version of these events was pretty new to me. And, honestly? Not the biggest fan.
I read all the books in the series minus the first (The Spanish Queen), since it wasn’t available in audiobook format, and they all followed a very similar trend. I won’t say exactly what kind of trend for the sake of spoilers (since, seriously, the trend is literally in every single one, it was actually kind of annoying), but, yeesh. Maybe Erickson isn’t for me, because the queens started to blur by the time I got to The Last Wife due to the same-story syndrome.
Oh well! Onto this weekend’s read.
This weekend I’ll be reading Binti by Nnedi Okorafor, because I saw a post on Tumblr about the book series and decided, hey, that actually sounds super cool? I’m down!
I actually plan on reading all three books in the series over the two weekend days due to the fact they’re 1) super, super short (we’re talking about 100-200 pages each), and 2) all in audiobook format on my Hoopla app. It’s perfect! And my Goodreads goal will maybe hate me a little less.
If you’ve read these, let me know what you thought of them!
Thanks for reading!
