I swear, I could wax lyrical about this series endlessly. Yes, this review is VERY late, but I wholly blame that on Covid making me utterly overwhelmed just by the act of existing. Book reviews as a whole went on hiatus for a while there (though I DID try, it just didn’t get anywhere very fast), but I’m gonna try it again! With this wonderful book! (And also the following sequels, so stick around if you’re interested!)

Come Tumbling Down brought us back into the story of two of my favorite Wayward Children characters: Jack and Jill! Well, specifically Jack, because this time we’re questing with Jack while she handles the effects she and her sister, Jill, have wrought on their specific Door World: The Moors. Which! Is possibly my favorite world we’ve been to up to this point? I mean, come on. Gothic creeps and spooky Shelley slash Stoker-esque freaks? Sign me up!

But, like, to read about. I think I would be too much of a wimp to actually go there. They’d eat me alive.

And, okay, maybe I just REALLY LOVE JACK as a character. Jill, too, but Jack. Jack is the one I want to never stop hearing about. I feel like she’s also the one who has shown the most growth over the length of the series, due to her coming back for more than one story (though, some of the others come back too, as we’ve seen!), which is so cool to see. I particularly liked how the plot went along in this one because of that growth, which, no spoilers, ended on a note that really set up well for another book that I THINK we will be seeing soon? Maybe? I can hope. I’m writing this in December, so. We’ll see I guess.

Anyway, yeah! This WAS my favorite in the series up until the next one came out, but, if we’re only counting stories that take place after the kids get to Eleanor’s School, rather than before, then it’s still my favorite of those. I think. I also really like the first one.

Eh. I like all of them, honestly. It’s really hard to pick and choose when they’re all such fun reads.

That’s all for this one! Hopefully I’ll be finishing out the series reviews and have them up to date relatively soon.

Thanks for reading!

  1. I don’t know why these buggers are so expensive. It’s rude. lol. They’re so short, they should not be the price of a full-length novel! That being said, sign me up for the boxset once the final book is released? I think there are going to be 10? #7 out tomorrow!
