This was everything I wanted when I first found about about it. A cozy high fantasy book about an orc building herself a café, of which basically no one aside from the people who invented it has heard of? Uh, yes please.
It was indeed the cozy vibe I had been promised, and I loved every second of it. I saw some people complaining that too much of the process of building the café was described and not a whole lot happened, but I’m pretty sure that was the whole point. (And, if it wasn’t, then I want it to be, because I LOVED it.) You actually are taken through pretty much every step of the process, and it’s strangely calming to just watch our main character, Viv, build up her dream.
There is some tension along the way, so it’s not all cozy and calm vibes around, but it was the ending after all of that that really solidified this book as one of my favorites not of the year, but of all time. I’ll be buying myself a copy of this one along with reading anything else Baldree puts out in the cozy fantasy genre henceforth.
Also, I’ll have my eyes super peeled for any more cozy fantasy I can get my hands on. I have a new favorite genre I didn’t even know existed!
Thanks for reading!
